Pinoy Trekker | Palmer-Asia seeks to expand its business as it celebrates 30 years | The company Palmer-Asia Inc. is aiming to build a new manufacturing facility and increase its business by exporting locally produced goods like fire extinguishers and fire trucks to other countries in Asia. The business will gain an advantage in the worldwide market as a result of these measures.

Angel “Andy” P. Palmiery, President and Chief Executive Officer of Palmer-Asia, Inc., claimed that the company’s principal production facility plant in Laguna will begin construction the year after the statement was made. The plant will be located in Laguna. Because of the new production facility, Palmer-Asia will be able to produce more fire trucks at a lower cost, and they will then be able to export those fire trucks to the countries that are nearby.

“We already have a production facility in Paranaque but that is not enough to meet the demands of our clients. This will bring us closer to our goal of having a presence in the whole of Asia. We also want to put up plants in other parts of the world” he added.

Palmer-Asia specializes in four distinct fields: fire trucks and emergency vehicles; fire suppression and security systems; fire extinguishers and personal protective equipment; and maritime safety.

Back in 1993, when Palmiery was able to bring in a significant amount of revenue from the sale of fire extinguishers, he decided to establish Palmer-Asia Inc. After the fire that destroyed the furniture shop where he had been working, he decided to establish his own business selling fire extinguishers.

“When I was looking for a job at that time, a friend suggested that I try selling fire extinguishers because I had selling experience. The first fire extinguisher I sold was a mixture of Halon 1211 and Halon 1301. It is now banned because it contains chemicals that cause depletion of the ozone layer and could contribute to global warming,” he recalled.

In its early days, the business dealt with imported fire extinguishers. In the end, it was successful in acquiring the necessary knowledge and equipment to manufacture its own fire extinguishers. At that point in time, the company was already selling firefighting equipment such as self-contained breathing apparatus and fire hoses. This equipment included fire suits, helmets, gloves, and boots.

In 1995, Palmer-Asia began, in conjunction with the industry’s most reputable companies from the United States and Europe, to design and provide various types of fire suppression and fire detection systems as well as to install and maintain these systems.

“There was one client who asked if we had firetrucks and in 1998, the company looked for possible partners to branch out to the manufacture and assembly of fire trucks. That year, we were able to find the team that helped us with the manufacture of fire trucks and they have been with us since then with additional experts, knowledge, and training,” he said.

2009 marked the beginning of Palmer-Asia’s Security Systems Department, which was responsible for selling items such as closed-circuit television cameras. The next year, it launched its Marine Safety Division, taking into consideration the extensive network of shipping businesses all throughout the country that serves many of the country’s 7,100 islands. At this time, ships arriving in Palmer come from the United States, Europe, Japan, and China.

“We have had many challenges while setting up the various businesses but with a lot of prayer, hard work, and finding the right personnel, we have grown to what we are now. All our processes follow our ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018 certifications. We strictly adhere to the requirements of the Bureau of Philippine Standards, the Philippine Contractors Accreditation Board, Marina, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, and other local government agencies. We show our care for the community by giving free lectures and training in the barangays and subdivisions on the use of fire extinguishers. We are also providing a fire truck for emergencies. We have built houses for our employees. We are guided by our core values of hard work, integrity, meritocracy, and solidarity,” he said.
